Thank you, it will be nice to see and give some testing.
Since caelinux 2013 has been realized, Salome-MECA was completely updated. Old examples and lessons don't work anymore, there is no wizard, eficas is not needed now.
This is core application of caelinux.
I think the best way (on my opinion) would be to include 2-3 basic videos (beams, shells, bodies)
and probably some program like Simple screen recorder + MKV merge + may be some video editor.
Basically there are enough movies on CalculiX, Freecad and Salome, but not too much for Salome-MECA.
Many programs come with own help files, but some of them (PyCAM) has web-based help system with broken links.

Hi, Thank you for doing this new release. I have mainly used Salome, Code Aster, Code Saturne and Elmer. Only thing I can think of as a wish would be a tool for meshing in a boundary layer oriented way suitable for some CFD calculations. I have never been able to convince Salomé to do that in complex geometries. Lately I have installed Salome-Meca and compiled Code Saturne up against the modules coming with Salome-Meca. I support the idea of a howto for Salome - especially after the easy and intuitive Postpro module was discontinued and replaced by Paravis.

Thanks for the feedback
I have now generated a first beta release that should work for the most part.
You can download it from here:
sourceforge.net/projects/caelinux/files/CAELinux2017/testing/

I have struggled to find space to put all the software packages that I wanted and so did not manage yet to add some of the recommended additions. But I have a few ideas to solve this issue and may be able to squeeze a bit more tools in the list.

Please note that the CAE software are in part in the Education, Development, Graphics, and Other categories in the Launcher menu...

Also Elmer is installed but does not have yet a launcher in the menu.

Calculix Launcher was also updated to latest version.

I would appreciate if you could try it out and give me some feedback.
I will continue my work to build at least a second beta until Christmas and may be ready for a release by end of december.

Also if anyone is willing to prepare and publish tutorials for example on Youtube or as videos or pdf, this release should give you a good basis ( you can install Kazam screen recorder and should be ready to go within minutes).

.

Thank you, very much
Here are some testing results.
After installing software from ubuntu software center, "Others" disappeared (many program are not available for user)
I think that all CAE software can be placed under education.

For keeping overall size less than limit. Maybe some binaries (for example Agros2D) can be duplicated in caelinux ppa and installed with some script?

however ,Xubuntu is at 17.10 version

I would like if in new caelinux there is code Saturne integrated with Salome to activate CFDSTUDY module , very difficult to install; and SYRTHES coupled with code Saturne.

Other software can be ftool (very usefull) and OPEN FOAM.
the are LTbeam and Telaio 2D but works on windows only...

I would like to join the request from dettole, it would be very nice to have integrated cosde-saturne with salome with the availability of the CFDSTUDY.

Thanks for your amazing job.

You have to run the command from:
/opt/code-saturne-5.0.4/code_saturne-5.0.4/arch/Linux_x86_64/bin/

Where if you write just "code_saturne", you will get:
Usage: /usr/bin/code_saturne <topic>

Topics:
  help
  autovnv
  bdiff
  bdump
  compile
  config
  create
  gui
  info
  run
  salome
  submit

But, if you add the argument "salome", writing "code_saturne salome", you will get:
/bin/bash: line 4: /bin/salome/envSalome.py: No such file or directory
