I also got the following error message:
I don' t know if it's related to the fact that I'm using kubuntu instead of ubuntu
it appears that changing the hostname change is mandatory not optional. Without changing I get an "hostname unknown" error calling
It would be good to make the installation hostname independent (but I guess you considered this already^^)
with changing the hostname as_run works fine.
Edit: I tried your suggestions but not a chance with astk:
I even tried to kick out caelinux from all files via

After you have done that, close and restart ASTK and it should work. Also to use the most ot of your computer's resources, you can edit /opt/aster113/etc/codeaster/aster-mpi-hostlist (or something close) to specify the right number of available cores (called slots in openmpi jargon) on your machine(s).

Hi again,
Thanks for reporting the error on desktop-file-install.. this seems specific to kubuntu. I will try to fix this in future packages.
Concerning the hostname in sarin, now it seems to be fine. The future packages will take care of this automatically.
For your runtime problem, this seems that it is linked to the fact that you don't have execution rights in
the /media/data/tmp folder that aster is using.
Usually default rights for removable media prevent execution on those drives. You should try to mount the drive with the 'exec' option or use another tmp directory.
Regards

Thank you very much!
The hint worked fine.
I never had problems with the user rights
in the old caelinux 2011 ...
I'm currently working with low disk space, and thus had to use this trick
with an external hard drive. I hope to get new hardware soon.
Then I should also be able to make a full installation of kubuntu and should have less troubles =)
Another thing: I currently wrote an aster mode for emacs.
I want to package it in the near future. Is there the possibility
to add new packages to the caelinux project? (I don't want to
open a repository on Github for a single Lisp file ...)

I had now the same problem testing the salome meca package.
After some searching: Post installing desktop-file-utils did the trick:
Maybe this package is standard in ubuntu but not in kubuntu. I guess adding it to the dependencies of the cae linux packages should resolve this issue on kubuntu
SALOME MECA pacgage now installs and works fine

A heads up
I have just tried to install a program , ( mate desktop ) and all manner of problems with the update
to the point Im going to have upgrade to at least 12:04
this killed Salome last time and I couldn't reinstall , just wouldn't work for me
average Linux skills !

Hy everybody.
I just worked my way through this thread and the sourceforge-page.
Am I right, that there are currently only AMD64 packages abailable, but no EM64. ...
Is there any Intel 64bit package available? I can only find i386 which should be 32bit ...
Best regards from Austria
