Hello jcugnoni (and others)
Contrary (and despite the caveat) to the posting on the CAELinux website stating: "At the moment most of the classical chipsets for Intel and AMD platforms are supported with some exceptions especially concerning the latest Intel Sandy Bridge and NVidia Optimus graphics adapters ..."; I am happy to report that CAELinux works on my Intel Sandy Bridge, Core i7 PC.
Perhaps you meant the specific combination of the Sandy Bridge AND the NVidia Optimus graphics adapter.
I am not sure whether my graphics card falls under the NVidia Optimus category or a close relative, but I report the following:
- I used the NVIDIA GTS 450 based graphics card (MSI N450GTS-MD1GD3 GeForce GTS 450), which took some time and effort at configuring with the appropriate NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-285.05.09.run driver and for Xinerama dual display monitors.
- So far SalomeMeca2011 works and so does ASTK / CodeAster with MPI works on mumps01a.* files.
- I have not tested other software, but I thought I'd report this as a success story of your wonderful effort at packaging a beautiful collection of simulation software!
Thanks for a job so well done jcugnoni !!! smile
Regards, JMB
PS: There is one problem I discovered. Trying to install with encryption of the home directory enabled causes ubiquity to crash without completing the install. I had to abandon the idea of creating an encrypted $HOME directory.
Second problem was I could not make it work using a 2TB HardDisk. I would get a grub ("out of disk") error on boot. This maybe very probably due to the BIOS of my PC, less likely Ubuntu10.04 and most probably not due to CAELinux2011. I used manual partitioning (using about 250GB of the 2TB) and it works fine. I report it here for anybody else encountering such a problem.<br /><br />Post edited by: JMB, at: 2011/10/30 15:01

Admin/Joel,
I was recently introduced to CAELinux last week and was pleasantly surprised to see the 2011 update, and some love on distrowatch.com as well. Just had a question regarding the md5 hash for the caelinux2011.iso image. I downloaded via the FTP server two seperate times (once overnight last night and again today) and did not get the same hash value listed in /distrib/caelinux2011/caelinux2011.iso.md5 . The value listed in the md5 file with the last mod date of 24Oct2011 17:53 (per FileZilla FTP listing) gives: [code:1]52a132cc1970d7f5a35871c9ab119d71[/code:1] but I get: [code:1]9d788406fe59de7c4aac40e0102d6f84[/code:1] using md5sum from pc-tools.net. The last mod date for the iso image on the FTP server lists 24Oct2011 17:48, so I wasn't sure whether I got the right file per your post on 24Oct2011. I have not burned this image to DVD yet; figured I would ask the question before wasting the media. Can't wait to try out the distro.

Hi John,
the correct md5 sum is
9d788406fe59de7c4aac40e0102d6f84
for the md5 file on the ftp server, actually it corresponds to a pre-release... but for an unknown reason, I can't delete it through FTP, so I could not update it while uploading the final release.
I need to contact the admin of our ftp mirror to fix this.
But the ISO file is correct, for sure.
