Hi,

Your problem is due to a timeout when checking the naming service.

I met this error only on liveDVDs, the PCLinuxOS based one downloadable on this website, and a custom Knoppix-based that I created for my own.

Just do Cancel to abort the launch, and retry.
If you can't hit Cancel, go to the python prompt and do :
>>> killAllPorts()

This will kill the Salome instance.

Dear CAElinux users:

I am wondering if there is any update of this problem.

I have two computers (AMD Athlon 64 and AMD Operton), both have the \"checking naming service...\" problem. I unplug the ethernet cable, but, problem was not solved.

However, I have another PC with intel P4 CPU runs without this problem (network cable was unplugged).

Thanks!

Hi,

I am currently using an Athlon 64 X2 to prepare the next beta, and everything seems to work find on this machine.

With Salome v2.2.8, the problem of Salome hanging at startup when running from LiveDVD seems to be solved. But I have to test it with several network configurations to be sure.

In the mean time, could you please try this:
- go in K-menu->Configuration->PcLinuxOs Control Center
- in the network section, click Create New Connection and select LAN
- select a network card (supported card??) & configure it with:
Configuration = manual (no dhcp)
IP address: 192.168.10.1
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: (leave blank)
DNS: 127.0.0.1
hostname: localhost
domain: local
and see if Salome works then...

In a terminal run \"ifconfig\" and see if you have eth0 working. Try also: \"ping localhost\" to see if the hostname/resolution is working.

I have tried to reproduce this problem several times, but no way!! Sorry. I hope that with beta 2 this will disappear.

Thanks!

This fixed the problem. I am able to complete the tutorial.

I am anxiou to learn code_aster now. I am specially interested in fluid/structure interaction type problem. So far, I have not find any example (in English) on the code_aster.org site.

Your liveCD is a great tools!

Salome freezes \"checking naming service\" using CAELinux Beta 2 too (installed on PC as 2nd OS). But only if my laptop is connected by ADSL modem/router ASUS TI 4631, in our office Salome works fine. Your suggestion with changed network config makes Salome work, but internet connection of course does not work at all. I (as linux non-geek) see the difference in DNS servers, when connected through ADSL modem/router DHCP assigns router DNS, while in office DHCP assigns real DNS of internet provider. I was facing to this problem also with MDK. But in Salome case using of providers DNS servers did not help. I had not enough time to check everything perfectly, but I hope I will do it and post it there.

Milan

P.S. I appreciate a lot newly involved programs like OpenFOAM, Elmer etc and generally adding of new CAE programs at all. Great job! Thanks for it.

Hi,

I have to admit that this case has not been tested because of our network infrastructure. This problem seems to come from the OmniORB client-server layer of Salomé that uses the IP network to allow communications between the modules.

As I have really no idea on how it is coded and configured, I think that asking this question on Salomé forums could be of great help.

There is also a similar problem with ASTK (Code-Aster) and this one can be solved by editing the configuration files... so maybe one of the startup scripts / env variable could do the trick for Salomé too.

Another cause can be the DNS configuration of your ADSL router: if your laptop is given an hostname like \"mylaptop\" for example, your ADSL router's DNS should be configured to include this entry : mylaptop IP-of-your-laptop
So maybe if you use static addresses for your laptop and add the correct entry in the DNS settings of your router, it might work.

Another option would be to edit /etc/hosts to add the same DNS entry (/etc/hosts is some kind of local DNS configuration).

Sorry for the problem, but I have no ADSL router with DHCP, so I really can't check this by myself...
