Hello all,

I am willing to spend some time translating Code-Aster Docs from French to English. I have completed one of them that was sent to me as a MS Word *.doc file. I am trying to get somebody's attention to just send (or allow me to access the MS word version of the docs) so I do not have to retype by reading the PDF documents and reformat them etc. I used Google language translation tools to accomplish part of it, then manually finessing the rest.

I can't seem to get anybody at \"code-aster@edf.fr\" to even reply to my offer of help. I am posting this here so that if others will raise the level of awareness, so the offer might ultimately be heard!

The document I translated has been posted to the website, but I will gladly translate others if I can get the original *.doc files.

We will all benefit from this effort, so please voice your opinion to the folks at \"code-aster@edf.fr\"

My original email of 8th May 2006 for which I received no reply, is posted below.

At a loss & perplexed!

Hello anybody,

I have offered to translate some Code-Aster French documents into English, but have not heard from anybody about how to obtain the MS Word format documents. My email reply to Mathieu has gone unanswered. He had sent me the MS Word format French document for LIRE_MAILLAGE. A few days later, I sent him the translated English version of LIRE_MAILLAGE
U42101h.doc on 26Apr2006, but have not heard anything so far. Also I do not know if anybody has posted it to the Code-Aster website. The status still shows \"in progress\".

Is anybody interested in getting French docs translated into English? If I can get access to the MS Word documents via http or ftp server I can work on them at my timing, rather than having to wait for one document at a time to be emailed to me.

Your reply will help immensely. Thanks
KS

Hi,
in case you do not succeed getting the original MSWord-format-files you could use KWord (part of the Linux KDE Office Suite) to import the PDF-files. It converts PDF into formatted text. The formatting is not flawless but often useful. And it is definitely much less work than retyping. The gained text can then be exported either in the MSWrite format or in the OASIS open document format. The OASIS-file can be read by OpenOffice which in turn can export it in MSWord-format.

In case you do not want to install KDE or OpenOffice you can use the KNOPPIX live CD. By booting from this CD you can do the conversions described above without any installation.

Another possibility is pdftotext (part of most Linux distros).

In any case I thank you for your effort put into the translation of code-aster-docs into english and wish you
good luck.

hi!

English manual of Code_Aster is very poor formated and often times doesnt have the illustration pictures from the original pdf files.

I have able to extract pdf file well with decent formating and illustration. Then I tried to translate it with google translator and the result looks fine and better than in wiki.

I can provide the HTML format of the pdf of some of the files, can naybody help me translate it in english?

see one of my sample.

Thank you.

Hello Florante,

If you can find decent translator of PDF to HTML then I think the This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. can get them translated through some sources he has.

Some months ago I used pdf2html, but that translator killed all the illustrations and formulas. The text translation was then performed using Systran and the language was acceptable but the results were readble, but severely crippled without the illustrations or formulas. Any suggestions you have are welcome here.

hi JMB,

PDF995 is based on pdftohtml but it gives a better output than pdftohtm. I used this and the output is quite ok but I have a hard time translating it in google since the document needs to be online. I do not have a page where i can point google to and have the translated version and besides its not practical to do it one by one. If you can automate translating it to English I will try to convert this pdf files to html as much as I could. I myself needs this documents to learn.

Thank you.
