If EDF would supply the originals then its probably fastest to stick with whatever format that is for now, leaving the images and script intact, just copy/translate/paste back the text sections.
The trouble comes when the next update occurs and the work has to be redone or touched up. In an ideal world the text could be stored separately in various languages and it would all be cobbled together on the fly like a website with language choices. But rather than waiting for that to happen I'd vote for the first option.
I will chip in a few translations whatever format you decide on.

Hi everybody,
For your information, I know that EDF is testing different methods to automatically translate all their documentation (in which format?)... but I don't know what they have decided for the future and when it may be available...
I suspect that they may migrate the internal Word documents to their wiki and then translate the wiki pages. Anyway, translating any documentation in any format is a good step forward !!

Just to let everyone know, I contacted EDF about the originals. They got back to me letting me know that they expected automatic translation of the next version (10.0) sometime around December. I may end up waiting until then to see what develops.
