Code Aster Translation in wiki format

I've begun translating the Code Aster docs into English using dokuwiki. An example is shown www.et.byu.edu/~pah32/doku.php?id=u4.44.11 . The translation was done first by machine (google) and then touched up by me. Syntax was done by taking images of the pdf using okular and then pasting them together in gimp (Pretty quick and preserves the formatting. I intend the sidebar to show all of the headers so that we can click to get there quickly. I was wondering:

1. What interest there would be in using this format?
2. Is anyone willing to collaborate with me. Those that do not speak french can simply do the machine translation and Syntax grabs.
3. Does anyone want to host this? I know CAE linux has a wiki page that I believe is dokuwiki would this be welcome there? I don't want anyone person to have ownership over this. I would prefer the community.
4. Any other comments

Hello Peter,

I would be willing to help with some translations. I have translated a couple of documents in the past using Google translation tools and massaging the results.

However I chose at that time to use OpenOffice, since I was not comfortable with Wiki's and I wanted to retain an &quot;easily&quot; editable copy on my PC.

I am not opposed to creating documents in Wiki format. Personally, I prefer a word processing software that resides on my computer, so one is not hampered by the vagaries of the ISPs, internet, host site, etc. But I am sure there are disadvantages to my preferred method too!

Ultimately, I remain committed to getting the translation process going and actively supporting it regardless of the method or media chosen. My motto &quot;something is better than nothing&quot;. Hope the community's momentum will carry this forward. I had also personally extended my help towards the translation effort at the Paris CodeAster 20th year anniversary meeting and hope the process will move quicker than it has in the past.

The only reason I chose wiki format was because of its automatic version control system. Someone can make a change and then someone can improve the translation. And we can see the progress. Personally, the difficulty of getting it in the correct format is somewhat of a hindrance to the translation. Let's wait until Monday and then decide as a group which format we should use.

I agree that the version control of a Wiki based documentation is a very strong reason to use it. It's drawback as you rightly pointed out is the ability to format and include images, graphs and equations.

what is the status of this project... it seems like working in French is perhaps the biggest problem with respect to the learning curve.

The status of the project is that we are looking for a format to move to. Wiki is nice as it is publicly available and has a version control, but it lacks the formatting of a word/open-office. I therefore propose that we use one of the following Google Docs, or openoffice combined with dropbox or another form of SVN.
