I ended up using the USB stick to load Ubuntu onto a second hard drive. As I use a notebook, I replaced the CD with a hard drive Caddy, and loaded Ubuntu onto that hard drive. This gives you grub. I think I eliminated grub by doing a repair on my original hard drive using the Windows CD in the CD Rom. Then I was able to boot from either Windows or the Ubuntu drive by using the BIOS. Obviously swap CD rom and 2nd hard drive as appropriate.

The problems I had with the USB stick went away with loading the CAELinux on the hard drive, so I would suggest you try that.

Ebay has hard drive caddy's for reasonable prices, if you are using a notebook.

Is it correct that you are limited to the amount of memory space on the USB drive for analysis when booting from USB?

Or, can you use hard drive space for the analysis also when booting from USB?

thanks!

Could I use a standard external hard drive and use a partition?
