CAELinux in the Cloud was created by Joël Cugnoni
CAELinux on Amazon Elastic Cloud Computing infrastructure

Do you wish to run a large simulation job but you cannot afford to pay for an high-end server with 64gb of RAM? You CFD simulation are taking days on your laptop and you would like to speed-it up using an "on-demand" Cluster?

CAELinux in the Cloud may be the solution you were waiting for !

Using Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, you can now run as many CAELinux servers, on-demand, with the hardware that fits your simulation needs (up to 8 cores / 64 GB RAM) and this just by paying the server hours !

For more information, see the news section

And leave us your feedback here after.

We hope that you will enjoy this new feature !!

Post edited by: Administrator, at: 2010/11/01 01:15

Hi,

I guess I won't use this feature for now but for curiosity.

Around what prices are we talking.

Good Luck,

Nicolás Guarín

So, just to verify... the news page says this is still in Beta, mainly for testing and feedback purposes. But we'd still have to pay to use it at this point. Interesting...

@Nick:
yes it is still in beta phase.. but based on my tests it is close to be ready for production. Concerning the price: sorry but there is no miracle here. The current CAELinux image on EC2 is free, but you still need to pay Amazon for running your server there... (Amazon does not give free trial options). And I obviously cannot offer free access to Amazon EC2 to anyone ;-)

@Nicolas:
for the final product, I think of something like 100 euro yearly subscription for the basic version without support. Something like that..

Hi Gigi,

yes NX is operationnal; but it takes some time to connect for the first time (the X server & desktop need to be started from scratch).
If the 1st trial is not successful, repeat the operation and it should go. Don't forget to choose Gnome as a desktop in your NX client session.

When using the micro instance; the connection can sometime time-out. This is because micro-instances have very little amount of RAM and limited CPU resources.
I strongly recommend using large instance (7.5Gb Ram, 2 cores) for CAELinux.

And you are right, if you create an AWS account now, Amazon gives you some hours free. It's like a Christmas gift ;-)
