CAELinux 2009 released! was created by Joël Cugnoni
Hi everybody,
After a long wait, the new version of CAELinux (release 2009) is now finished and ready to be downloaded!
This new version is a liveDVD image based on Ubuntu 8.04 64bit, kernel 2.6.24-24 with all the latest updates and it includes:
- Salome-Meca 2009.1 (32bit) integrated with
- Code-Aster 9.4 (64bit,OpenMP)
- Code-Saturne 1.4.b 64bit + MPI
- OpenFOAM 1.5 64bit + MPI
- enGrid 64bit
- Elmer 5.5 from CVS + ElmerGUI, all 64bit
- Gerris Flow solver, 64bit + MPI
- CalculiX 1.8 64bit
- Netgen, Tetgen, GMSH
- latest versions of Impact, Dynela, MBDyn, Easyanim (64bit)
- Octave + QtOctave
- R + RKWard
- Scilab
- Maxima + wxMaxima
- ImageJ, ITKSnap, Voxel_Mesher (64bit)
- Xfoil, JavaFoil, AVL, Datcom+
- Latex , Kile, Texmaker, Inkscape, OpenOffice, Qtiplot Gnuplot
We have also added a nice set of auto-configuration scripts for SSH (password-less connexion to local host) and Salome/Code-Aster to accomodate smoothly changes of hostname, username, SSH host or user keys... This should fix most of the problems experienced previously with Salome & Aster.
System requirements
CAELinux 2009 only runs on x86 64bit CPUs like Intel Core2Duo, Core2Quad, Xeon 64, Core i7 or AMD Athlon 64, Athlon X2, Opteron or Phenom. 1Gb of RAM is the minimum to use the included software in LiveDVD mode, 2Gb or more RAM is highly recommended. For installation, you should dedicate at least 20Gb to the root partition to be safe.
Downloads
CAELinux 2009 ISO image is now ~3Gb and can be downloaded from here:
ISO image:
ftp://cae-linux:salome@caelinux....9.1/caelinux2009.iso
MD5sum: 49c9d58331001eded6a930db23c44797
ftp://cae-linux:salome@caelinux....caelinux2009.iso.md5
Usefull informations
As usual, the default user login / passwords are:
login: caelinux
password: caelinux
There is no "root" account in Ubuntu, use "sudo" and enter your own password to run administrative tasks.
At the moment, the download links in the website have not been updated, and Bittorrent seeds may be added in the future.
At the moment, there is no plan to develop a Virtual Machine for the moment, mostly because emulating a 64 bit system imposes much more system requirements (AMD or Intel hardware virtualization is required and must be activated) than a 32 bit system.
Please also note that you can easily install CAELinux 2009 on a USB drive to create a so-called "liveUSB" with unetbootin ( unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ )
For help on installation, I recommend you to read the Ubuntu Documentation at: help.ubuntu.com/community/GraphicalInstall
I hope that you will all appreciate this new release !!
Best Regards

Hoi Caelinuxers,
thank you very much Joël for this new release.
I will start downloading it in five minutes (seams that some server times are in the future compared to my real time, although maybe, here in Belgium we are always at bit late. Even Sergej, later in time than me, is in front of me in writing order)
Again, great job, much appreciated!

Thank Joel for this new release, I will decide later if to use it or going ahead with my hand made installed salome and aster (I don't like Ubuntu).
An advise to all users:
If Ubuntu propose to upgrade to 9.04, is it better to refuse.
Ubuntu 9.04 comes with Python 2.6 and it seems that Aster does not work with this release of Python.
Code-Aster requires Python 2.4 or 2.5.
Alessandro.
