Hi everybody,
I have managed to find some time to work on the project recently, so the development of CAELinux 2009 is now progressing very quickly.
The distro itself is now at 90% completion, but I need to work on the small details now (auto-configuration scripts, menus, user profiles, helper tools, documentation...).
If everything works well for the "final" touch, the new release should be ready within two weeks (~June 10).
This radically new release is based on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 64bit, and contains:
- Salome-Meca 2009.1 32bit + Code-Aster 9.4 64bit (compiled from source, multi-threading support)
- Code-Saturne 1.4 with my little CFD study wizard (compiled from source, MPI support)
- Elmer: latest release with the new ElmerGUI (compiled from source, 64bit)
- latest release of Gerris compiled from source, 64 bit, MPI support
- latest release of CalculiX (ccx, cgx) also compiled from source in 64bit, with SPOOLES & ARPACK solvers
- latest versions of GMSH, netgen and tetgen
- QCAD, R + RKward, Octave + qtOctave + Octave-Forge, wxMaxima
All this will probably result in a large ISO file of ~ 3Gb.
As it is based on a very popular Ubuntu version, you will find a lot of tips, help & updates for this system. Using netbootin, you will even be able to take it with you on a USB stick !!
Stay tuned for further news.

Good job!
I just wondering, is there a specific reason to base it on 8.04? If I understand it correctly, it will be also 64-bit only, why is that?
By the way, OpenCascade is available in multiverse starting from 8.10 , which might be of help for you.<br /><br />Post edited by: Alexey Balmashnov, at: 2009/05/28 15:41

Hoi Alexey
Hardy Heron (Ubuntu 8.04), is the LTS (long term support) version of Ubuntu. It is likely to be a bit more stable than other versions and will be supported for a much longer time.
However, the Salome platform runs quite well on 9.04 (jaunty jackalope) on my system.
