The VMWare edition of CAELinux looks very interesting for me. I intend to use it with Linux because of its flexibility and fast loading speed as compared to DVD but keeping the flexibility of a DVD. A full install is probably even faster but not as flexible in moving from one SW-version to the next and from one PC to the next including user data. (e.g. for demonstrations on friend's PC's using prepared FEMs from home.)
I am looking forward to the VMWare edition.

Hi all,
Today is a great day: CAELinux beta 2 is finally released!!
In the end, it contains the following softwares:
- based on PCLinuxOS 0.92
- Salomé v2.2.8, Code-Aster STA8.2, GMSH 1.61
- ELMER v4.0, Calculix (CCX & CGX) v1.5, Tochnog
- MBDyn, EasyAnim, Impact
- OpenFOAM v1.2, OpenFlower, Gerris Flow solver, Paraview
- QCad, Octave, Scilab, Maxima, Grace
- OpenOffice v2, Latex, Scribus, GIMP etc...
Moreover, all the current tutorials & examples have been included in the distro.
Concerning the OS, this version should be more stable and offer a much better hardware compatibility than Beta 1.
I hope that you will enjoy!!

Thanks very much Joel! A Herculean effort! Looking forward to grabbing the iso over the high speed network at work, tomorrow. In the meantime, I'll be looking at the new examples!

And today another good news:
VMWare version of CAELinux Beta 2 is also released.
Noew you can use the CAELinux environment directly from your Windows or Linux OS without any installation.
See our download page for more details...
PS: a powerfull PC is required for this version: at least 768Mb of RAM to run mid-sized simulations.

Hi,
I downloaded both the iso and VmWare version. I have not tried the VMWare version yet, but, the LiveDVD looked pretty good (I did run into boot failure on my Dell Dimension 670 dual Xeon workstation. I used nonetwork/noscsi/nousb/nosound to boot up. Sound card may be the problem).
I played with the old tutorials (back in beta 1). Now, I am very interested in the new examples, especially contact and plasticity. I saw the picture dumps. I am wondering if you can write a quick procedure to show how these are done.
Thanks for the great work!
