I am using Salome-Meca with Mint Linux, I have found it to be a fantastic package, thanks! I have heard that CAELinux intends to have a debian based OS in 2009 is this true? If CAELinux was based on Ubuntu for example, CAELinux would be my primary OS.

Yes, it's true,
I am currently working on Ubuntu 8.04 64bit and will use this system as a basis for the next CAELinux release. But as I will be really busy until end of february-march, I don't expect to release anything before end of march 2009... sorry for the long delay but I am sure that it will be worth it!!
By the way, I encourage everyone who knows (or want to learn) how to create deb packages to try to prepare packages for Ubuntu of the codes that are still missing in the Ubuntu/Debian repositories.
Cheers,
Joël Cugnoni aka "admin"

Dear Admin, there will be a 32bit version too? I don't have a 64 bit hw at the moment....
Just another thing: will the new version of salome be included (4.1 or 4.2, I dont' remeber at the moment)? With 3.2.9 I'm not able to show _ELNO_ fields in post processor, it seems to be a bug in 3.2.9 version.

Hi Joel (and everyone else);
I've been an Ubuntu user since 2005, I would like to help creating debs for Salome-Meca next year, I think it's the way to go. I have a 32- and 64-bit machine running Hardy (LTS), which is the right choice in my opinion since installation can be standard for a period of three years, until the next LTS release.
I only recently started using Salome-Meca, there's still a whole lot of documentation missing and the documentation all look different, some of it is very, very old. I think it will be worth it if we can also create a deb containing good quality PDF tutorials/how-to's (using pdfLaTeX, for example), sticking to a standard layout, using nice artwork and keeping it up to date.
I've already decided to make this my hobby next year, so I can and I want to help (I have some Python and C programming experience)
We can chat about it more next year, but yes, debs are most definitely the way to go, especially if we can build around the existing software packages that's available via the Ubuntu repositories, but I'm sure that's the idea?
Very exciting!
Until next year then.
