RAM & SWAP partition was created by ottinger
Hi all,
when launching salome from liveCD it cannot run and stops at 12% when loading. I suppose this is due to my low RAM ... 256 Mb.

If I install on my HD the distro CAELinux and set 1Gb of swap partition, do You think I'll solve the problem?

I must be sincere, I am new with Linux!
Thank You for Your help,
ottinger

Hi,

Sorry but 256Mb is really not enough to run Salome, you would need at least 512Mb of RAM+SWAP to run SALOME & CODE_ASTER. There are two solutions in your present case:
1) you can create just one linux swap partition of 1Gb on your harddisk and continue with the liveDVD. During its boot sequence CAELinux searchs for swap partitions and use it if possible.
2) the best way to improve the performance is still to install the distribution on HD. You will need to create two partitions: one Linux Ext3 partition for data (at least 6Gb) & one linux Swap partition of 1Gb. If you allready have a Windows system on your HD, you can follow this rough \"guide\" to create a Dual boot system:
www.caelinux.com/CMS/index.php?option=co...mp;id=15&catid=3

I am preparing a clear \"How To Install to HD\" document... but it's not ready yet.

Good luck & I hope this will help
