mesh tutorial? was created by Johnny Geling
Hello,

I was trying to mesh a complex component but failed because of the complexity.
Is there a tutorial for meshing? Not a simple tutorial as in the general tutorial. I need to make the mesh on some details finer and on others the mesh can be coarse. How do I do that?

It would be nice to have some pointers to tutorials or other references. I already tried the online reference from the disk.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

did you already practice the Geometry & Meshing tutorial?

If yes, then you can try to follow these hints to mesh complex components:
0) in the GEOM module in OCC view mode, extract all the necessary geom. entities from the model (edges that have to be refined, the volumes etc..)
1) first define a global hypothesis for edges only (average length) that is approx. equal to the shortest edge of your geometry.
2) then assign local hypothesis on the edges where you want to refine / coarsen the mesh. If you want to coarsen a single volume or face, you can also assign directly the 1D hypothesis to the volume, but avoid to specify different 1D hypothesis on two adjacent faces or volumes. In this case, assign the hypothesis on each edge separately...
3) for each volume, assign local hyphothesis for 2D & 3D (length from edges + maximum volume). This will create the 3D mesh based on the existing nodes on edges.

Post edited by: admin, at: 2006/05/30 12:23

Hello,

I have done the tutorial and on the salome forum I found some directions for meshing more complex structures. With that I was not able to make the mesh. With your explanation I wil try it again. It was not clear to me how the local and global hypotheses worked. Now I maybe got it.

I have 1 imported volume. Can I explode that in different volumes? I would say no.

Thanks for your effort.

Hi,

if you have imported your geometry, you can have either a Compound object (assembly of several volumes) or a single Volume object. If you have a compound wit hseveral volumes, you can explode the assembly into several volumes in GEOM module with the Explode command.

But if you only have one volume in your part and want to split it in several parts, you can create a plane or another kind of 3D geometry in Salome and use the Partition command (in GEOM) to cut it. if successfull, this operation will create a Compound object with several sub-volumes etc...

I hope this will help you.
