Rotordynamics was created by Jake Zwart
I know that Code Aster has operators for rotordynamics, where gyroscopic effects are taken into account.
Does anyone know of a tutorial for performing a rotordynamics analysis. I am interested in both torsional and lateral vibration.

Code_Aster release : STA11.4 on OpenSUSE 12.3 64 bits - EDF/Intel version

Personally I haven't seen any tutorials dealing with RD, so I suggest you find some of the important keywords for RD and 'grep' the test cases.
Also, search the CA forum; I've seen the topic there a few times.

Dear JakeZwart,
I don't know the reason why you prefer Code_Aster.
But since this forum is not only for Code_Aster I propose to use MBDyn, at least if you are interested in a transient calculation.
MBDyn features beam elements, rigid bodies with gyroscopic effects and also unsteady hydrodynamic plain bearings according to the approximation of Hans Jürgen Butenschön.
If you are interested, I can provide examples.
Best regards,
Lagrange

Hello! My speciality is Dynamics and strength of machines, 4 years in Perm Technical University.
I have my own simpliest code for rotordynamics in Scilab with CAE formulation and 20-nodes elements using, it has gyroscopic effect (Koriolis effect) and stress stiffness effect. There is simple example cloud.mail.ru/public/626a/RQbahrU4C in form of cloud of nodes. Source code was tested on 7 examples from rotor dynamics and with real data of one asynhronous engine.
