DownLoading Code-Aster documents

Hello admin,

I have in the past struggled with trying to download Code-Aster documents since there are so many (980+) of them and there is no automated way of obtaining them, nor are they available in an archive or zipped format from the website. Now I have managed to download ALL the PDF docs on my computer using an automated script.

My question to the admin is:

1. Does this website have the space & bandwidth to host these French PDF files and mirror them? Optionally, accessible via ftp?

2. I used using an automated script for downloading. Would anybody be interested in this script, which I can release to the public, if it is okay with the folks at Code-Aster. The reason I would like them to say it is okay is, because my script uses a whole lot of \"wget\" calls and can easily flood a server if many users decide to use the script.

3. I have also automated the conversion (using pdf2html) of the downloaded PDF files into HTML docs, which if hosted here (or somewhere else) can enable users to get a CRUDE version in English via Google translate or similar websites. Not pretty, but is better than next to nothing in English Docs. Would you like to host these French HTML files?

4. I am translating some of these English HTML files into better English versions, manually. Anybody willing to assist?

5. Any attempts or help in getting & hosting the original MS-Word documents (that the PDF files were created from) on this website of course will be immensely helpful in the translation process.

Please let me know your thoughts.

PS: Of course ANYBODY who has access to a language translation software (like SYSTRAN Professional Standard Edition or equivalent software), please speak up and offer your help!

I have done automated translation of some of Code-Aser documents and have them as PDF files. I'll be glad to make them available on this web site, but I don't know how!

Pros:

-Serve as very good start-up tools for English speakers before more qualitative translations are available.

-Both French and its translated PDF files are available as two files (i.e., for example, all U*.pdf are merged together into a single document). I could use both of them together to refer some topics. Search tool also comes very handy.

-Hopefully, this will save time for someone who has to go through the same process.


Cons:

-As discussed elsewhere, the translation process was not perfect, so no graphics, and sometimes the words are spread over several lines (not always, but mostly in cases of discussion of keywords/input).

I'll be looking forward to suggestions on how I may upload the documents!

Thanks for creating this nice place for the CAELinux community to use.

I just uploaded a few files (Synopsis*) and provided links in here:

When I tried to upload somewhat bigger files (~23MB), the upload failed. It just didn't go through even after trying a few times. Is there any workaround?

Hello SN / admin,

I have a couple of Code-Aster docs (U4.81.01.doc and U4.91.01.doc) in the original MS-word format, which I obtained from AA. Do you still have access to Systran? If so could I send you the docs for translation. I am hoping that:

1. Using the original word Doc will enable us to preserve the diagrams, formulas and layout better.

2. I am willing to manually massage the results of the automatic translation as best as I can.

Could you help getting it automatically translated so I do not have to translate everything? Let me know what you think.
