Aster analysis failure -- follow up was created by Kevin Sweeney
When attempting to do the piston tutorial Aster fails with an error. I am unable to follow the French as well as I need to so hopefully someone here can try to decipher the sh output (attached). The tutorial works perfectly when using Aster in Live CD mode.

A hint to anyone who has trouble following the sh output. The version of Xterm included does not support logging but does support the -hold option. This will keep the window from closing after the command has finished. In Aster, from the menu bar, find the default settings dialog. It will allow you to add the -hold option. Then you can copy/paste. A further note, the command will not take effect until you remove the Aster case and retry.

sorry about the duplicates. the system keeps telling me that I am not logged in when I try to post. Didn't know that it was sending them anyway.

Fixed the problem by reinstalling the system. This makes the forth time that I had to install/reinstall. Last time took over 5 hours. As I mentioned in an earlier post, this is indicative of a larger problem. My system is reasonably new, powerful, and fast. My DVD player is a Sony and works well in all other situations. There is a bug somewhere in the installer. My best guess this that there is problem with DMA, but that's just a guess.

I'll probably post something on the PCLinuxOS forums, seems like this problem is more in their ballpark.

On a lighter note, now that my system is working I can say that I really like this distro. It's like heaven to an engineer to have all of this software in one place and WORKING!!

Post edited by: Kevin Sweeney, at: 2008/01/19 01:27
