2D timber beam analysis was created by vito
Hello,
I'm looking for a help with a relatively simple static stress analysis.
I'm trying to analyse a wooden beam with a hole drilled through it. The beam is subjected to bending loads.
The beam is 1025mm long, 72mm deep and 45mm wide with the simple support on each end of the bottom face. Two point loads are applied to the top face 135mm either side of the center line. A hole is drilled horizontally through the beam 200mm from each end at the mid depth (36mm). Because this arrangement is symetrical I only want to model one half of it.
I've generated a nice 2D mesh in GMSH and have included a physical point at the support (GM1) and physical point of the loading location (GM2) and physical line (vertical)(GM3) at the center line location (plane of symetry).
Please, can you advise me on the following points:
1. What element type should I use if I'm assuming plane stress?
2. How do I define my symetry boundary condition?
3. How do I get a stress in X and Y direction and Shear stress?
4. How do I define 2D orthotropic material properties for the wood?
If it helps to see the mesh file that I've generated, plese, e-mail me on the following address: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Thanks for any help you could offer me.
