Several questions to CAELinux on Virtual machine

Hi,
I have already experienced CAELinux from LiveDVD. Trying now with VMWarePlayer I find some difference and miss some aspects. My Questions:

1) Boot settings
Are there Boot settings similar to those When booting CAELinux from Live DVD? When pressing F2 I reach only BIOS settings of the virtual machine but do not get the boot settings screen as when booting from the LIVE DVD. How can I perform and save certain settings (which are not performed automatically when booting), as:
- printer configuration
- my local network (I do not find it inside CAELinux)
- screen resolution

2)
resolved question 1): is it possible to read and also to write to a FAT32-partition? That way I could work
on the same files which I am working onto also with Windows applications

3) Screen only partially used.
Only a part of my screen (Laptop with resolution 1680x1050) is filled by the VMWare-Player-window. Going to PCLinuxOS Control Center the resolution is set to 1024x768. This seems to correspont exactly the \"Pixel density\" of the screen. Is it / How is it possible to use the whole screen in order to have larger windows (Salome etc) working with CAE Linux ?

4)
when booting from Live DVD I could read from my hard drives. They were mounted automatically under media:/.
when booting from inside the VMWare Virtual player I don't find my hard drives. Must I mount them and in which way?

Thank You very much for Your patience and help,
Best regards, Jo

Hi,

VMware is very different from booting from a LiveDVD: it provides a complete abstraction (\"Virtual Machine\") with virtual hard disks, virtual display etc.. so it behaves more like a second PC with an HDD install of CAELinux that you might access only through network or with usb removable devices.

So some answers now:
1) there is no important settings to modify before the boot starts, all the settings should be changed inside CAELinux environment, with PCLinuxOS Control Center.

2) to read/write to a \"shared\" directory with your windows host install, you should create a Network Shared Folder in Windows and then access it in CAELinux VMWare through: My Computer > Remote Places > Samba shares > YourWorkgroupName > YourComputerName

You can also play with USB keys and mount/unmount them in CAELinux VMWare with the buttons in the title bar of VMWare Player.

3) To change the system configuration (you should not change network settings though), in CAELinux, logged in as root, go to PCLinuxOS Control Center (in KDE menu > configuration). For the screen resolution, you should then go to Hardware > Configure Monitor and select something more appropriate.

4) same as 2)

I hope this will answer your questions.

Dear Joel, I am still troubling with my question 3). I found some contribution in at the VM-Site, but dont understand it well. Could You be so kind to interpret these? I would just like to know if it is possible to use the full screen (1680x1050) instead only a part to display the VM Player Window.

first Link:
www.vmware.com/support/player/doc/releasenotes_player.html

Citation:
VMware Player does not support the configuration option that sets virtual machines to enter full screen mode after powering on.
This option is set in the configuration (.vmx) file:
gui.fullScreenAtPowerOn = \"TRUE\")
If this option is set, (for example, because the virtual machine is used in Workstation with this setting), VMware Player enters full screen mode, but the menu and tool bar at the top of the window are not displayed.

Dear Admin,

I am new to caelinux2011 and running from a liveCD but resolution options are very low (480 x 640 and 800 x 600). nVidia drivers on the DVD appear up to date. I was hoping to use the live dvd to show non linux users about open source freeware. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thank you so much for the CAE linux links and forum! Lori
