Installing CAELinux as a Windows application? was created by Julian Smith
I read that it might become possible to install CAELinux/Ubuntu as a Windows application. Is that a realistic hope? It would probably horrify the purists and carry overheads compared to a clean installation but it sounds less daunting to new users - or would there be an increased risk of losing the whole machine???

You could install CAELinux (or other) using Virtual box which is free, or use some other virtual PC.
There are overheads but they might not be a deal breaker for you.
There might be problems with 3D support and thereby programs such as Salomé, paraview and so on, but I really don't know how well 3D is supported these days.
