Should I Update Ubuntu? was created by Tom
Hi,
I am totally new to caelinux and pretty much new to linux (haven't found myself at the command line since about 1989). I have managed to get caelinux installed in a vmware virtual machine running on a early 2009 Mac Pro.
The Ubuntu "Update Manager" wants me to install about 400 MB of updates to the Ubuntu system. If I do this, am I potentially causing some of the caelinux tools to break?
Is it better to just let the system gradually get out of date until the next caelinux release?
Thanks,
Tom

My recommendation:
If your installation works: don't accept the upgrades of base/core components unless you are sure what you do. If you need to upgrade applications like OpenOffice, Firefox or Thunderbird can do that manually.

I have been keeping the Ubuntu 10.04 of my CAELinux2010 installs (on 2 different computers) up to date with default automatic upgrades, and no problems to report. However you must be careful about accepting grub updates if you are running multiple partitions because a grub update may change your boot order.
Most of the CAELinux programs must be updated manually.
