Question regarding CAELinux2010 beta was created by Peter C.
Hi, I have a question regarding the CAELinux 2010 beta. I was wondering, given that it is currently in an incomplete/beta state, if I were to install the current beta, would I have to blow away the beta install to update to the next beta of the 2010 distro, or for that matter the final build? Also will I be able to download through the package manager the updates/new packages for the 2010 distro as they come out? I'm wondering this before I decide whether or not to install CAE 2010 beta right now on a spare drive, or if I should just wait so I don't have to format to get up to the same level as the final build/newer betas when they come out?
Thanks,
Peter
Thanks,
Peter

Hello,
actually CAELinux 2010 is in release candidate stage: this means that it is complete and ready for deployment but currently in testing.
At the moment, I think that no big last minute change is to be expected. I will just try to enhance the boot menu and update the getting started document... Except those minor changes, you can consider the RC has stable.
With so few changes, I thinkthat you can go forward.
However CAELinux is still a monolithic distro, so there is no "packages" at the moment (but it's a way that I will investigate and I strongly encourage people to develop packages for Ubuntu..). This means that an upgrade means reinstalling.. not practical I admit but at least everything is configured properly out of the box.
I expect to release the final 2010 release next week if there is no big surprise.
