SOLVED: CAELinux2009 Live CD doesn't boot was created by Tom Krivec
Hi,

my problem: I got a new Workstation with an Intel i7 860 processor.
basically very nice... but when trying to install Caelinux2009 the liveDVD does not boot, but drops into a limited (?) ash-shell, shortly after the UBUNTU splash sreen becomes visible.
Has anyone also experiences this behaviour?
Could this problem be due to the known problems with the SATA controller?

Any feedback welcome.

regards, tom

Hi,

This is most probably because your SATA controller mode is set to IDE compatibility mode in the BIOS.
Try to change this setting to AHCI and it should work fine !

Thanks for the quick reply,

unfortunately changing the HD controller mode to AHCI does not help. Still the same situation, the system drops into the ASH shell at the boot process.
Same situation also with the "RAID" option for the controller.
Is there any other known hardware conflict, so that I can check the system?

Hi,
as already mentioned changing the HD controller
to AHCI (or RAID) mode did not solve the problem.
But I could get the LiveDVD to boot with the option
"live all_generic_ide".
Then CAELinux 2009 booted correctly and could be installed to the HD. All (Windows) HD-partitions were automatically detected, no functional problems so far.

Thank's for your help.

Regards, Tom.
