Using multy Threading was created by Edgardo Arrieta
Hi,
I'm using Caelinux 2009-64bits on a machine with 24 cores (6 amd-quads) and 16GB of RAM. For some reason Caelinux only shows up 8 cores. And only uses 8. Does anybody know how to use more than 8 cores with CAELinux ? So far I'm running Code-aster and it uses all of the 8 cores but I'm interested in letting Code-aster use all the 24 threads.<br /><br />Post edited by: Edgardo Arrieta, at: 2009/12/04 19:36

I wonder if there is an Ubuntu limitation here. I would be curious to know if anyone has ever run Ubuntu on such a computational monster.

Did you build it yourself?

As far as I remember, ubuntu desktop is limited to 8 cores by a kernel setting. Instead of rolling your own kernel, you can install the server version which supports up to 64 cores.

Note that the server version dosen't have preemption enabled, and that is annoying when you run a desktop. Roll your own, or see if anyone has made a custom kernel and posted it to a PPA - that's what I did some time ago.
