Problem with running CAELinux 2008 was created by k_zurawski
Hi again
I'm having some problems with CAELinux 2008 32 bit distro. I downloaded the Live DVD and followed a tutorial to installing it on my laptop. I logged on as a root, started install wizard, wiped out ext3 partition which belonged to ubuntu, format and installed on HDD. There were 2 things different to the tutorial which I did after installing. First I set Windows as a default OS, second I pushed escape while wizard wanted to create additional user account. As I read, "caelinux" account was created while installing, so I didn't need this additional one. After restarting computer I saw the two default accounts on PCLinux. I tried several times to log on to caelinux, but the result was and still is the same, after entering password I see linux trying to boot the user, but after few seconds I see the same logon screen with the two accounts. I tried to enter different passwords, but as I noticed none were accepted by the OS, so the default is still valid. I logged on as a root, created additional account and tried to logon to that one, but the result was the same. I also tried to change the password of the caelinux from root, but nothing has changed. Any ideas how to solve this problem?

Kind reards,
nodek

K.

Hi

strange issue..

Something similar happened to me in two cases:
1) when I installed from a faulty DVD: the installer skipped some files => unable to log in
2) there was not enough space (or partition mounted in read only) after installation => unable to log in

Did you try login in a text console? (Alt+F1, then login) Any error message?
try to run the commands "df" and "mount"to check the space and mount type of your partition. maybe "dmesg" can give you some hints on the problem too
Finally, try to re install to see if the dvd media was creating such issues.

good luck

Joel

Hi,
I formatted disk, downloaded again LiveDVD. I'll try to install it again. Thank U for the reply, if the problem occurs anyway, I'll follow Your advice.

I'll let U know how it went.
