Why Won't Salome-Meca start? was created by Phill Christiansen
I successfully got S-M to work flawlessly on my home laptop (thanks to all here!), and wanted to install it to my work computer.
I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit (it's what I'm used to) onto an intel quad core dekstop, and un-tar-ed the package for Salome-Meca (the same way I did for my laptop).
But after I run the postinstall script and try to run the program, I get this error:
[code:1]sesa@LinuxCAD:~$ /home/sesa/Salome-Meca/SALOME-MECA-2009.1-GPL/SALOME/runSalome

Any suggestions?

Ok, I read a post that said caelinux might not play well with 9.04, so I installed 8.04 64 bit in an effort to get things to work better.
After installing Salome-Meca, per the readme file, I get this error:
[code:1]sesa@LinuxCAD:~$ /opt/SALOME-MECA-2009.1-GPL/runSalomeMeca
/opt/SALOME-MECA-2009.1-GPL/SALOME-MECA/414/prerequis-SalomeMeca-414.sh: line 1: /opt/SALOME-MECA-2009.1-GPL/SALOME/SALOME4/V4_1_4/../Prerequis/debianForSalome-v1_2_0/bin/dirname: No such file or directory

What am I doing wrong? Is there a basic set of files or directories that I'm missing?
edit: Upon further reading, it seems I'm missing some files from /bin/. Should salome have put them there in the first place? Do I need to put them there manually? Did I do something incorrectly during install that made them not show up?<br /><br />Post edited by: Phill Christiansen, at: 2009/06/18 22:13

Hoi Phill
for the first part on Ubuntu 9.04 (dirname) the solution may be found here: Linux OS - CAELinux-X64 (install ia32-libs). SalomeMeca runs fine at my place under Ubuntu Jackelope.
Second part with Python 2.4.4: Ubuntu 9.04 comes with 2.4.6 so you may need to install 2.4.4/5 (I donot recall which version I installed). And I donot known what version of Python has been installed on Ubuntu 8.04 though.
