updating the packages in caelinux2008 was created by tom vd brink
after doing a clean install on an external usb disk my caelinux2008 worked fine. so i thought to try and update the packages a bit using the synaptics manager. this downloaded a large amount of new packages but when trying to install it didn't seem to do it's job.
It came out with a double bar showing progress but just closed that and done.
i then forced the update using apt-get update followed by apt-get upgrade.
It worked. all things were installed but after that the boot froze after starting cups.

i couldn't get it fixed but I did notice it now booted as PclinuxOS 2009

has any one else tried updating and got it to work?
for now I just did a new clean install so i can use it still but i think for some newer software updated packages are needed.

Start by turning off the CUPS service (printing service) and boot up, afterwards you can troubleshoot CUPS

Code_Aster release : STA11.4 on OpenSUSE 12.3 64 bits - EDF/Intel version

Yes I did it, no problem.
I left the upgrade working at night, because it needs a lot of time. But if you go on the PcLinuxOS forum, you will find a lot of information.

May be your problem is due to the fact that the video card is unsupported by the updated distribution, so it could be an idea to start at init=3 after updating, to see what happens.

Regards.
