CAELinux on external usb HDD was created by Arturas
I install CAELinux on USB HDD. For correct booting it is needed create new
usbinitrd.img. But I can't success create it, because when I run linux from CD, and try to change root to
my usb hdd root (chroot /mnt/sda5) I get warning so this directory dosn't exist.
Other problem is: when I try to run command mkinitrd I get warning:
\"stat: cannot stat: 'dev/root': No such file or directory\"
I think so this related to first problem. In PCLinuxOS forum I find so removable hdd must be opened as rw,
but how it must be done, because in properties of mounted hdd I see so for root all permisions are enabled.
Maybe anybody know how solve this problem?
Thanks for answers.

Hello Arturas,

I am very sorry for this problem, and I have tried to find an answer but found nothing new. As I am not a real Linux Geek, and nor a PcLinuxOs developper/tester, I suggest that you post this question on PcLinuxOs forums. I am sure that the PcLinuxOs community will be able to help you on that particular point.

For your information, I am currently working on a dual boot system which has been installed in a very simple / efficient way (backup your data first !!):
1) boot on CAELinux LiveDVD & start the Installer
2) run the Partition Manager and choose Advanced mode
3) select Windows partition and choose UnMount
4) resize Windows partition (NTFS or FAT32) so that you free at least 7Go (1Go for swap / 6 Go for ext 3 filesystem)
5) Create a Linux EXT3 partition just after the Windows partition, with a size of 6Go at least.
6) create a SWAP partition of 1Go (at least).
7) Apply the changes (this will resize the windows partition / create the necessary partition for CAELinux installation)
8) Close the Partition manager and go on with the Installation process (select the Ext3 partition for / mounting point, add select Swap partition for Swap...)

This is a very simple way to create a dual boot system when you just have ONE HDD (laptop for example). But if you have 2 internal HDD, it's far better to install CAELinux on the second hard disk!!

PS: I am writting this procedure from what i remember now, but i will write a precise \"how to\" in a near future...
