Hello, Everyone!

First of all, I wanted to say hi to all of you. I am trying to switch into opensource CAE tools as much as possible, and I find the idea of CAELinux as the whole distributions specifically created for scientific purposes is amazing. But currently, I have a big problem.

The problem is as following:

I have a simple netbook, which is currently run on Windows 8.1. I would prefer to keep Win8.1 on it as the main OS for now and due to low capacity, I cannot install a second OS on the hdd. But I also want to use it to learn some of the CAE tools, which are coming with CAELINUX. So, the best option I can see is to load it as liveCD from USB stick. Making USB stick is not a problem. The problem started when it rejected to load. I found out that unlike classic ubuntu, CAELinux distribution does not contain any .efi files for EFI loaders.

Could you, please, help me:

1) Does CAE Linux support EFI loading? If it is, could you, please, explain a bit more on where can I get .efi files for the distribution?
2) If it is not supported, then the other option is to put EFI compatible loader, but the next question is how to start CAELinux from it.

Regarding the second question, what I tried was:
- Create a bootable USB using Rufus with MBR with support for EFI option from caelinux2013.iso.
- Download bootia32.efi from here github.com/jfwells/linux-asus-t100ta/blo...er/boot/bootia32.efi . As far as I understood, it is just a grub loader in EFI-compatible form.
- Run the following commands in grub command line:
linux (hd0,msdos1)/casper/vmlinuz
initrd (hd0,msdos1)/casper/initrd.gz
boot
-Then some process was happening for a minute or so and then I suddently got into BusyBox command shell. And that is. I have no idea how to move further.

If anybody can help me with it, I would really appreciate and will write detailed instruction for CAELinux Wiki and duplicate it here. I spend already couple of months to find any answer and tried hundreds of different recipies (including my own findings), but no luck. BusyBox is the furtherst I could get.

Thank you very much in advance.

I'd like to help you, but I don't know the answers to you questions.
However, CAELinux is based on Xubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit, so you should be able to find your answers if you search for the issues but with (x)ubuntu 12.04 instead

Thanks!

I will try to look for loading Xubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit.

If I will find something useful and will be able to get it booted, I will let you know.

Best regards,

V.
