I'm presenting... was created by Dario Marrini
Hi people,
I'm new in CAELinux, I'm a (may be) expert Linux user, I'm not an engineer, I'm a musician with knowledge about personal IT, baasic knowledge in C, Perl... ; since a few years I'm modeling and building tri and quadcopters, so Iìd to knwo about 3d modeling, using Blender, OpensCad, and in last time FreeCad; since several months I'd made progress in knowing 3d printing and 3d printers (I thought and think it'd be very useful in building flying models); what I'm searching for in Linux is a software platform to do a complete project, modeling, and simulating thing I like to build : 3d printer, quadcopters and so on....

about 3d printers :

- I need to create a fully functional project, simulating correct movements of mobile elements, to verify the correct measures and excursion's measures;

about flying models :

- like above, but I'd like to know where the center of gravity is, and the total weight of model

I don't know nothing about FEM, but I'd like to learn all tis stuff

I hope someone may help me, guide me.

best regards

dario

There are some tools for multi body dynamics/simulation for linux. Some more, some less userfriendly. Your programming experience will help you immensely here.

I see that FreeCAD can do som MBD although I haven't tried it.

As far as I recall, Salomé can find COG of a model as well as volume. Then it is easy to calculate the weight.

Basic stress evaluation of parts is easy in SalomeMECA, so you can probably pick that up quickly.
