Need Help to start using Openfoam was created by Vinay
Hello every one. Greetings. I'm a mechanical engineering working on IC engines. I'm very new to the linux OS and openfoam as well. I heard that openfoam is a good open source cfd tool that can effectively be used to simulated IC engine problems. I'm very much interested to learn and do an engine simulation but I know nothing about linux (CAELinux as well) and salome, openfoam. Its a humble request to you all to help me as to how to get started. Please excuse me as many of you might be advanced users of the software. I have installed CAE linux and seen in the applications tab salome and openfoam wizard and openfoam terminal. I tried opening salome and came to know that its a CAD kind of software where drawings can be drawn. But when I tried to open openfoam wizard (as I dont know what to type in openfoam terminal) a window opened asking to fill so many columns.
In this context, somebody help me learning the software from the very basics. Please do forward me a video or a document which gives complete information on starting up with the openfoam. I also tried to start with tutorials given in salome website but could not understand.
I know I have a long way to go in order to run a IC engine simulation and I'm ready to spend as much time as the software demands to master it. Please help me.
I will be more happy if an IC engine problem is posted. Thanks a lot in advance.

OpenFOAM is not the easiest software to start out in, BUT there are tutorials available. I suggest you try the ones on the OpenFOAM website and just do a general websearch for more tutorials.
Re. Salomé: it's a 3D modeller, but an exrtemely basic one at that. Most of us use it as a pre-processor and mesher.

Thanks for the info claws. I tried with tutorials in the openfoam website but in vain as most of the tutorials seems to be related to the openfoam installed in ubuntu. I have installed CAElinux in which openfoam is prebundled. Can I get any tutorials on openfoam tutorials in CAELinux atleast? By the wayt, what is the difference between the CAElinux that has salome and openfoam prebundled and ubuntu Linux in which openfoam needs to be installed separately? which one is better for a research grade simulation?
I cannot afford commercial softwares like star CCM+ or star ES ICE/AVL Fire/KIVA for my research work and hence searching for open source cfd packages. I'm ready to spend time to learn and thus openfoam knowing that it is not so easy.
Please help me find some tutorials of openfoam practice in CAELinux. Is there any other easy-to-run open source cfd package for windows?
Thanks again.

The OpenFOAM in CAELinux is as far as I know, not modified in any way.
Sure there are scripts - wizards - to create cases etc. but the core program remains the same, so you should be able to follow any OpenFOAM tutorial when you use the 'OpenFOAM console' (or whatever it's called, I don't run CAELinux).
I don't what OSS CFD packages there are out there for windows, so someone else has to answer that.
