UNetbootin from USB questions was created by Stephen Kramer
Hello,

I would like to run Caelinux from the USB drive using UNetbootin.

Could someone please explain how this system works?

Are you limited at all by the size of the USB drive space?

What is the USB Drive space used for, does UBUNTU or Caelinux need to save files to it?

Can you access and utilize external hard drive space?

What is the "persistence space" option used for when setting up with UNetbootin?

thanks!

Hey!

I was asking myself the same questions 2 weeks ago and I think i can help you if it 's not too late !

UNetbootin is a software allowing you to install a linux distribution on USB key.
Your USB sotrage should be bigger than the linux distribution and once you've installed Linux, your USB key can't be used as a normal device anymore. (except if create partitions)

The persistence space will give you some space to store files on your USB if you're working on linux.

Hoping that it will help you,

Alex

Hello,

thanks for your info!

Did you get CAELinux2013 to boot from USB?

When I have the BIOS boot from the USB w/Ubuntu, I've run into a glitch, I get an active Linux terminal screen but no desktop. Do you know what I need to do to finish installatin and launch the desktop ?

I've tried reinstalling the iso w/Unetbootin with no effect.

thanks

Hello steve!

Do you have an UNetbootin boot menu letting you choose between the live ubuntu desktop, forced mode or boot on hdd ?

Because i did not have this problem, the desktop launches normally. I did the process all over yesterday to reinstall the live USB and no terminal appearing when booting..

As far as i'm concerned, the only thing wrong can be the iso file of linux? did you check the mdsum?

EDIT: have you tried the command lines such as "startx" ? It should launch the graphical user interface
