Installation of tightvncserver :) was created by Cédric Renzi
Hello everybody,

I am working on caelinux2013 and would like to access remotely to the workstation using tightvncserver on linux and tightvncviewer on windows.
Unfortunately, the package version referenced by ubuntu is outdated and suffer from several bugs which make it unstable and more or less unusable in the fact.

Therefore, I am trying to install the 1.3.10 from scratch.

To achieve that, the best guide that I found is:
pietercvdmlinux.blogspot.com/2010/07/run...-on-ubuntu-1004.html

Unfortunately, I think I have the following problem:
I need to install "libjpeg62-dev" package before making the Xvnc server, which I cannot because synaptic does complain about dependancies with other caelinux-managed packages (elmer-gui for example ... which is a bit annoying, right ? ;) ).
As I understand it, I believe this is quite a generic question related to the way caelinux is constructed (libraries already installed in order to include all the good pieces of packages like elmer, salome, etc.)

I must add that I am not very experienced under linux, still a beginner.

Could you please help me before I destroy my current installation ? :woohoo:

Does anyone had previous experience in building the tightvncserver 1.3.10 from sources ?

Do you think it would be worth including a preinstalled package of tightvncserver in a next version? (I do not know if it is feasible / easy though :) )

Thanks a lot !

Cheers,
