Hoi Das,

see for a very brief explanation pages 23, 24, and 25 of this presentation:
www.code-aster.org/V2/spip.php?action=dw2_out&id=1707

and the excellent book, from page 68 onwards by Jean-Pierre:
"Beginning with Code_Aster.
A practical introduction to finite element method using Code_Aster, Gmsh and Salome"
www.code-aster.org/forum2/viewtopic.php?id=19189
framabook.org/14-beginning-with-code_aster/

or direct download:
framabook.org/wordpress/wp-content/plugi.../download.php?id=108

And here the real though short answer:
www.code-aster.org/forum2/viewtopic.php?id=16135 [SIEF vs SIGM] or
www.code-aster.org/forum2/viewtopic.php?id=17545 [difference between sief_elno and sigm_elno (solid elements)]

page 15 to 17 of this document:
www.code-aster.org/V2/spip.php?action=dw2_out&id=1721

Well, it is confusing. My version:
SIEF: sigma EFFORT (general forces, for instances forces, moments for beams, shells, and stresses in solid elements)
SIGM: stresses

Interest: structural mechanics, solar energy (picture at 'my location' shows too little pv panels)
