Re: Installation into Oracle's VM was created by Jack
I am having a somewhat similar problem, but I think it's more confusing!
Host: Win 7 Pro with current version of Virtual Box and CAELinux2011
I have an .iso file on the machine's hard drive.
I can successfully create a VM and access it, but only the first time. After shutting it down any restart gives either "no bootable media" or "can't read bootable media".
I created a second VM, using all the same info and the same .iso file. It loaded and worked fine (with a couple of exceptions), but again, only once. Then it gave me the same errors.
I have successfully run by booting off the Live CD, before even looking at the VM approach. One thing I found is that I can access the machine's existing file system via the Live CD by looking at the networked drives. I cannot do that in the virtual machine. Doing it allows me to save the work between runs of the CAELinux.
Thanks for any help!
EDIT:
After posting the above, I found Joel's posting about creating the VM disk and booting the VM from the DVD. I tried that successfully. I installed from the DVD to the VM, as he suggested. I am now able to load the VM with CAELinux2011 repeatedly.
Do I need to install the Virtual Box Additions?
The VM does not yet have access to the host's files that was immediately accessible via booting directly with the DVD. Looks like I have to create a share on the host first. Correct?
Would still like to be able to run the way I tried initially, though. (using the iso on the host's drive)
