CD version....? was created by Vincent
I was looking at CAElinux and noticed lots of non-CAE things such as bittorrent, limewire, games, etc...
Just wondering if stripping all these out would give a live-CD instead of DVD version? If so - would there be approval for this from caelinux as an alternative version?

In my first attempt to create a liveCD version of Aster (PClinuxOsAster, you can still find it in Google...), I had already some hard time to keep the size of the distro and i had to analyze in details where the disk space was spent.
The conclusions were that except OpenOffice(150Mb), most of the disk space was used by Aster and other related packages.
Needless to say that if you add Salome (600Mb by itself) plus all the other codes (OpenFOAM=400Mb...), it is nearly impossible to put everything on a single CD... and if it is possible, you will not be able to do much more than just pure FE simulation.
So I will not spend time and efforts in this direction, but if someone can try this , I will try to support it.
If you want to try, you can start from CAELinux Beta 3a, install to HDD (at least 10Gb partition), remove all packages that you don't think are necessary (Synaptics), remove some \"source files\" from Aster / Salome / OpenFOAM, remove tests or examples (/opt/aster/STA8.3/astest for example) etc...
And finally, you can rebuild a custom ISO by running the following command from a console (logged in as root):
/root/mklivecd-opts.sh
