Start system without dvd rom was created by Johnny
Hello,
This is a good initiative. Let's start with that.
But I have a problem.
I do not have a dvd player. I have enough space on a harddisk and running linux (debian).
I copied the content of the iso image to my harddisk. I could boot the kernel using grub and pointing to that kernel. Unfortunatly i got a error that ik could not mount the loop filesystem.
Do you have any suggestion for resolving this problem? What option should I give the kernel that it knows where it could find this loop file system. It seems to mee that it is looking on a cd-rom or similar device for this filesystem. Is it correct that it wants to mount the file livecd.sqhfs?
Any help would be fine.
Kind regards.
Johnny

Hi,
I am very sorry but I have no answers for that problem, as I am not really a Linux-Geek. But I suggest that you search or post this question on the PcLinuxOs forums as we are using this distro as a basis for our liveDVD.

But for sure, all the trick is to mount the UNIONFS/SQUASHFS compressed filesystem... but I can't tell you how...

I got an asnwer on the PcLinuxOs forum. Starting from version 9.2 PcLinuxOS kan be started from harddisk by using the parameter bootfrom=...
Is the livedvd build with pclinuxos version 9.2? If so I can use this parameter to boot from the harddisk. I have to put the contents of the iso in the root of that harddisk.
