Hardware CAELinux LTS was created by dion
Hello,
Is there any list of compatible hardware with CAELinux LTS disttributions?
- When choosing the equipment, better to get the right one fist
- Also this may avoid troubles in the future (future Linux upgrade)
Thanks for your help!

because caelinux2011 is based on ubuntu 10.4 LTS --> visit ubuntus homepage...

I think if 2011 work 2012 should be "compatible"

I bought myself some 5 years old CAD workstations (Dell Precision 490 and upgraded them within the last 6 months) (2GHz 5130 --> 3GHz 5160; 2GB --> 16GB), build an "server" with a simple Am2 ASUS Board X2 3800+ Athlon 64 with 3 1 TB disk at raid 5 for shared_tmp and my own data... just to get some cluster experience --> together they consume app. 600Watts... i do not need separate heating in this room. :)

Since CAELinux is Ubuntu based, compatibility is very good.

You should have an old pci or pci-e network card to use on hand, so you can get online and update a built in
( to the motherboard) LAN driver if needed. Especially if you are using a recently released motherboard.

Take a look at availability of Linux drivers for any new model video card before you buy a new video card. Almost all video cards have Linux drivers available these days.

Use premade "Packages" to install Linux drivers. Let Ubuntu install the packaged driver rather than trying to manually download and install the driver if you can. But a manual driver install will work if you have to go that route.

You may need to install a video card Linux driver and Sound card (or built into the motherboard soundcard) Linux driver.

Everything else should work fine.
