Trouble installing was created by Eivind Vikebø
Hello
I tried to install CAELinux 2011 from a DVD.
The normal live boot stops and reboots, the debug boot starts with "uncompressing initrd.gz", "Loading /casper/wmlinuz......", "uncompressing errortrd.gz.......", and then stops with " -- System halted........ready.".
The computer is a Dell Optiplex GX620, Pentium 64 bit dual core with 2 GB RAM. I have tried the same DVD on two other computers and they boot into the live eval. The computer with the problem boots an older PCLinuxOS2007 version of CAELinux from DVD without problems, and has some version of ubuntu installed on the hd.
Have tried the memory test, and it didn't report any errors.
Any ideas what I should look for?

Hi,
I think that it is cause by a DVD read problem... I had bad experience with some old DVD drives on Dell systems (NEC DVD drives). This is sometimes caused by an incompatibility between the optical specs of the media and the drive.
For CAELinux DVDs, I have tried a large number of media but found out that the best choice was to use Imation DVD+R burned at 8x speed on an external LiteOn dvd+R drive...
So my advice is to try to burn the image on another brand of DVD using another computer.
Actually, CAELinux is so big that you end up testing your DVD drive close to its limits
Another option is to install the image on a Usb stick with unetbootin for example.

Tried another brand of DVD on another burner as you suggested, and it did the trick.
Thank you for your help!
