Access the Windows files from VMware was created by bhaumik
Hello:
I am using CAELinux the VMware version. once in the linux environment i cannot access the files on the host PC, thats where i have most of my step files. Is anyone having a similar trouble? Does anyone know how to fix the issue?
i tried looking into the VMware website and it says that it is easy to cut & paste from the host environment to the virtual environment. it did not work either.
thank you for the help.
regards.

Hi,
I never used the VMWare version of CAElinux. I always uses the DVD version. However, on one of my laptops, I have Win XP as the primary OS and have VMWare installed, then, SuSE 10.1 as the guest OS. I created a share folder so that both XP and SuSE can access. I am not sure that you can copy/cut files in XP and then past directly into Linux folders and vice versa.

Hi there,
to me, the easiest way around this is to use a USB harddrive (aka memory stick) to transfer data between the VMWare and XP.
cheers, Loe

When your USB disk is inserted, there is a command to make it accessible in the Virtual machine:
- in the free VM Player is just a simple button in the title bar of the application (on the left of the \"ethernet\" button)
- in VMWare workstation it is in the VM menu
