SalomeMeca2011.1 or 2010 in Caelinux2011 was created by Kamil Gul
I tried to install SalomeMeca2011.1 with aster STA10.1 in Caelinux2011
but when I installed it in home directory I cannot use SM2011.1. It doesnt start.
Same with when I installed inside /opt directory.
How can I use SalomeMeca2011.1 inside caelinux2011. What I am doing wrong and what should I do, what are the steps?

Another thing is when I try to update code-aster 11 from the site of EDF. It makes the update but then code-aster becomes impossible to launch an analysis. The modification referred in the site to make manually, have been already done after the update. (for exemple: med3.0 is already installed and present in config.txt...)

How can I launch a succesful update in especially caelinux2011

Hello Kamil,

I accomplished this but in a way contrary to the advice you will find on the CodeAster website (or its users). I have found the update process of CodeAster fraught with numerous problems and to be unstable and at times incompatible with the various catalogs, python scripts etc.

So I advise creating a completely new cloned image of the /opt/aster110 subdirectory. No doubt this makes things more complicated, but at least I have both versions functional in CALinux2011. Hope this helps.

Hoi Kamil

the C-Aster site explicitely states that the updates are not valid for the CAELinux port:

Warning, Code_Aster update is availiable only for Code_Aster stand-alone but not for Salome-Meca!
See: www.code-aster.org/V2/spip.php?article277
There might be a way to circumvent this, but it sure is not a standard procedure.
So not really an answer to your question, just a remark, and otherwise accept the advise of JMB.

Hi Kees ,JMB,

I think I am gonna wait next stable 11.

JMB - could you explain a bit more, you create the image before the update don't you ? Then you do the update on single aster110 directory other one stays untouched. Then ????
Does this really works ? :-->copying the entire aster110 elsewhere and after if update goes wrong, erasing updated directory and copying back untouched directory to /opt. Will I be able to reuse aster just it was like before update.

Kamil

Hoi Kamil

what I did to update the NEW11 version is indeed just copy an existing C-ASter directory and from there run the update.

First I have
/cae/caster11010/caster11 (version NEW11.0.10) I guess from C-Aster site)
then I copied this to
/cae/caster11026, version NEW11.0.26 being the latest update at that moment) and run the update from here, in a terminal:

cd /cae/caster11010/caster11
./bin/as_run --auto_update --nolocal (currently version NEW11.0.32)

both versions on /cae/caster11010/caster11 and /cae/caster11026/caster11 run along side each other (adapt path in ASTK).

Hello Kamil Gul,

I did essentially what Kees Wouters has detailed in his message. By doing so you will have two versions of CodeAster. The original should remain untouched. But if you are doing this for the first time, I highly recommend doing a complete backup of everything (on to a spare drive), just to be safe. I do not recommend doing this on your only setup, unless you are willing to run the risk of a failed install !!!

I jumped into doing so because I had a spare PC and replaceable hard drive(s) to experiment with!
