CAELinux Beta 2 - Conversion to OpenFOAM 1.3 ?? was created by Philippose Rajan
Hello,
I would like to know if it is possible to either upgrade or convert from OpenFOAM 1.2 (which is included in the CAELinux Beta 2 release) to the new OpenFOAM version 1.3, while retaining whatever integration has been built-up between the rest of the CAELinux system and OpenFOAM ?

Have a great day :-)!!

Hi,

at least you can try a separate install of OpenFOAM 1.3, but to be honest, if you see now only OpenFOAM v1.2 in CAELinux, it is mainly because I had so many problems building v1.3 that I gave up (problems with compiler/libraries versions...).

But if you know what you are doing, just try... and tell me if you find a way to compile it ;-)

Hello,
Thanks for the reply...I was wondering...is it really required to compile OpenFOAM 1.3 from sources for it to work in the LiveCD?

For example, I downloaded the Version 1.3 package available on the OpenFOAM website and followed the installation instructions provided, and I basically have a working OpenFOAM system on Fedora Core 5.

Ofcourse, I had to install a couple of dependencies, but it was not more than two or three....if I remember right, I had to install the visualisation engine Paraview (the version they recommend...I initially installed the latest version, but that refused to work)....and I had to do something with my GCC too...shall checkup and let you know what exactly it was that I had to do....it was something to do with conflicting directory paths.

Currently though...my problem is with the LiveCD itself :-) I have an ATI Radeon 9700, which apparently the LiveCD really does not like :-) So...havent yet seen CAE Linux working. (Any suggestions??)

Have a nice day!

Regards,
Philippose

Phillipose,
I'm currently running with a Radeon 9700 AllInWonder card with no problems, so your problem may lay elsewhere, maybe chipset??

I'm also interested in the latest and greatest of OpenFOAM, but am having trouble getting 1.2 to work, running from a HD installation. On running foamSystemTest, I get errors when checking for rsh and ssh. If you have any advice, I'd appreciate it greatly.

Thanks,
Dustin
