Additional System Requirements

Hi,

I'm planning on investing in a new workstation and I want to be sure that I can run CAE Linux 2009, including Salome-Meca, on it.

The system requirements I've found at caelinux.com specifies suitable processors and memory requirements. Are there other hardware aspects I should think of? What about the graphics card?

Perhaps you could even suggest specific computer models that are proven to work well with CAE Linux 2009?

I apologize for being a bit anal about this, but it's a personal investment and I need it to work.

Just about any 64 bit system is going to work well with CAE Linux... its just Ubuntu 8.04.

With that said you are going to want a Nvidia graphics card. If you want the double throw down system get an i7 core with 12 GB of DDR3... now you won't really need all that if you are still learning how to use Code Aster. If you want last years hot CPU get a e8400 or a quad core with 8 GB of DDR2 ram. I also recommend a solid state hard drive if it is in the budget.

My system is at the moment is a:

Asus P5Q Deluxe MoBo
Intel E8400 CPU
8GB of OZC Reaper DDR2 1066 RAM
Nvidia Quadro FX570

I've yet to max out the system with Code-Aster. I'm still learning and you don't need all that just to learn. However, I run UGS NX 6 CAD on an OpenSuse install and that uses every bit of the RAM and CPU I've got.
