Software souces for CAELinux 2009 was created by Alex
Hi Forum,
Since CaeLinux2009 is based on Ubuntu 8.04, is it advisable to add the DVD set for Hardy to CaeLinux 2009 software sources...?
I have a very narrow band internet connection, and I have the full set of 6 DVDs for Ubuntu 8.04 amd64... can I use it to install libraries/apps in my system...?
Thanks for this wonderful Engineering Design platform...

There are no software sources for CAELinux. Some programs out of what comes with CAELinux are available in standard repositories like Gmsh, for example. See also this thread: caelinux.com/CMS/index.php?option=com_jo...;id=3276&catid=2

Hi,
that's true, there is no repository for CAELinux 2009, but if you want to install other packages or install updates, the official Ubuntu repository can be used without much risks.
Thus using a DVD as a package source should work fine too as long as you use the official Ubuntu 8.04 packages and don't mess with the codes and libraries installed in /opt.
If it works well, don't forget to post your feedback here... I also have a poor internet connexion... and thus I am interested.

Hi there
I have killed a windows XP in a laptop ( It is a nice thing to do, an act of mercy, killing a winXP which has several terminal diseases caused by spyware, viruses hypertrophic registry and tmps... whatever, you only have to delete the NTLDR file in rhe root of your HDD... :-D ) and I will install CaeLinux 2009 in that Laptop, and add my Ubuntu 8.04 amd64 DVD set as software source...
I will update my libraries to install several apps, and by next week I will have some news...
One more thing...
You said ( think it was you in another thread ) that most FEA and CFD applications in CaeLinux 2009 had been compiled with INTEL compilers, was Calculix compiled with Intel, and OpenFOAM-1.5...?
I have successfully compiled Code Aster 10.0, Syrthes, as well as calculix-2.0 with icc/ifort ( did not manage to compile Code-Saturne-2.0.0 w/ icc/ifort yet, but i did it with gcc/gfortran )...
And I have reported something rather strange with ccx-2.0... I have made a post in YahooGroup of calculix users...
Running a bechmark w/ the two versions of Calculix, gcc vs icc-ifort, yelded faster solution times for the Intel version, but there were some discrepancies with the results as compared to reference values... check
groups.yahoo.com/group/calculix/message/5306
Do you have any experience like this...?
Is it to consider Intel ccx_2.0 unreliable for engineering design work... ?
Cheers
Alex

Hi Administrator and Balmashnov
Long time no see, been out involved in other projects...
I Have enabled Ubuntu 8.04.02 amd64 LTS DVDs as Software sources for CaeLinux 2009, and so far so good.. no problems till now, I had to enable these repos to compile some new stuff, like BRLCAD, Fluka and Dakota ( a DACE package ) as well as IA-FeMesh, and it went allright so far...
I will probably shift from Debian Lenny to CaeLinux 2009 if the compatibility shows up to be complete...
Once again
THANKS to Devel Team for this wonderful release... :-D
