Simple example was created by DB
I am currently taking an FEA class where we are using ANSYS. I can not afford
a 10000 dollar piece of software so I have been trying to duplicate my assignments
using Salome Aster.
While I have gone through the piston tutorial, I find myself unable to construct a
simple truss example. I can create the geometry, but I am unable to create the mesh.
Is there a tutorial on doing a simple truss structure in Salome?

Code_Aster release : STA11.4 on OpenSUSE 12.3 64 bits - EDF/Intel version

I can't help you with a working example, but I can direct you to the testcases for CodeAster:
babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_url?doit=d...p;btnTrUrl=Translate
These are the examples for static cases; take a look at e.g. www.code-aster.org/DOCASTER/Man_V/V3/V301012a.pdf
Edit: I have a working test case 'ssll105a' - see if you can use anything from it
can't get the file to appear in the post - let me know if you want it

Thanks for the references, but those appear to just be examples.
I could be missing something of course. I do not know french.
Basically I need something that can tell me how to go from the
simple truss geometry to a mesh. I just have points and
lines. No 3D involved. I am not sure how to convert that into a mesh.
The flash examples I saw are 3D objects.
I would think I could find tutorial on a university class site, but
I had no success there.

I've created one for you. You can open the HDF in Salomé and figure it out yourself, but heres the procedure:
*Geometry module
Create your points
Connect the points with lines
New entity -> build compound -> hold control down and select all the lines.
*Enter the mesh module
New mesh -> select the compound in the 'geo' list
Select 'wire discretion' and select 'average length'= 1 (since my geo is small)
Compute the mesh
Create node and element groups
Export the mesh to unv or med
Do your magic in CodeAster - can't help you there, haven't really messed with 'poutre' beams.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the help Claus. I have managed to get the mesh created now.
Now I am trying to figure out the Aster part.
