Problems with R and RMySQL pkg was created by Matt Cook
Hello Everyone,

I have been having difficulties installing the RMySQL package for R statistical computing software. However this is not the reason I am posting, so I will not go into great detail of the problems encountered.

I have been having this problem for quite some time. I have tried numerous fixes, however I have never had significant success. After consulting the R Help mailing list, the general consensus seems to be that the version of R installed is simply out of date.

My version was 2.6.1 and I think they are now on 2.8.something. I used synaptic to remove Sage, which removed this version of R. However this is when I discovered that there is another version of R (version 2.5.1) that is coupled with RKWard. I have been unable to find any packages relating to this in Synaptic, and I do not know how it was installed, so I do not know how to uninstall it.

Does anyone know how I can get rid of this software so I can get the new release of R installed cleanly?

Best Regards,
Matt

Hi,

sorry for these problems.
In the current version of CAELinux, I have installed RKWard and R by compiling from source, because the packages were not available when I prepared the DVD. As a result, you will need to manually remove the executables and libs.

I don't remember exactly where I installed R & RKward, but using the "which" command, you should be able to locate the installation.

Thank you very much for the quick reply!

I will not be able to work on this today, but I will post back when I have some results.
