I recently attempted to install CAE Linux in a dual boot setup with Vista.

This can be done but you must start this installation by partitioning the hard drive in Vista. The partitioning tool included that runs during the installation of this package will make changes that are not properly recognized by Vista. The result will be that Vista will not run. You may also have problems booting up and using recovery media. One solution is to go into the root account of Linux (using the live DVD) and partition the hard drive with the utility in the Linux Control Center. I had to delete the partition(s) I had made for Linux and remake the partition that was there before I did anything.

I suggest going to the site for PCLinux OS (the OS in this package) and searching for the tutorials that will assist you in this installation. I followed the article below for my successful installation:

Vista has its own bootloader. The article links you to a Windows app, BCD, which will allow you to add a linux entry. If you knew what you were doing you could probably get away with not using one of bootloaders that comes with the CAELinux package but they let you easily set everything up such that you have the option of starting linux in different modes.

Post edited by: Matthew Bondy, at: 2009/01/09 04:38
