a few months back I had asked about SPICE modelers and EE Tools, and Joel had asked for suggestions for future releases to broaden the CAELinux appeal. I started this thread to collect some suggestions.

Categories:

SPICE (e.g. PSPICE)
UC Berkeley's SPICE - embedded.eecs.berkeley.edu/pubs/downloads/spice/index.htm (BSD Licence)

Board Layout and Analysis
gEDA - www.geda.seul.org/download.html
Magic - bwrc.eecs.berkeley.edu/Classes/icbook/magic/index.html
kiCAD - www.lis.inpg.fr/realise_au_lis/kicad/
GNUCap - www.gnu.org/software/gnucap/

Board Layout
PCB, Gerbv?

Chip Layout
LayoutEditor (www.layouteditor.net/index.html) - (GPL)

EE specific modeling:
RF, FDTD,????

OpenEDA isn't free (it's a collection of Open source tools that they sell somehow as a bundle for $100) but there is a good list of OSS EE packages there:

Please add your own items to this list, or comment on the fitness of any of the above packages for inclusion in a future CAELinux distro.
