Pipe Geom Tutorial is Broken - Cannot Create a "Extrude along Path" with a Wire Obect as the path? was created by tybeede
Hello,
I'm attempting to work through the tutorials for CAE Linux 2008. I just downloaded it and it as been working very well. I'm attempting to get through the pipe analysis series of tutorials.
Here is my problem. Inside of the pipe-geom tutorial I start to create the geometry of the pipe but I cannot complete the first "extrude along path" function. I can select the face created from the circle as my cross section for the extrusion. However, whatever I try it will not let me select the wire object which represents the product of the sketch step.
I would eventually like to become a contributor for this project and help to improve the documents and tutorials. I hope somebody has a suggestion. In the tutorial they are using Salome-meca 3.2.6 and my install has 3.2.9. I'm not sure if this is a bug. I searched it and other people have noticed this problem but their posts have not got any answers to resolve the problem.
PS, how can I start to contribute with respect to docs? Is the wiki the best place?
Thanks,
Ty

Ok, so the problem is part of Salome-Meca 3.2.9. Do you know if anybody is working on a bug fix? I assume I can always extrude each individual segment one by one. Then after they are all created combine them with a boolean operation for the study?
Is anybody working on a patch to fix the "extrude along a path" feature in Salome? Has the bug been reported?
I think CAE linux is really cool and I'm looking forward to getting helping out around here with the docs. Maybe I can create an example of the same thing but which will work it 3.2.9. Would this be a problem? I can just post it on the wiki site right?

Yes, any contribution in terms of examples / tutorials is highly welcome. The wiki is open !!
For your problem, you are right, extrusion "by segments" + boolean operations should work. The bug has allready been reported to developers and will probably be fixed in the next release.

I updated the wiki page for to make a note of this problem. I'm going to test all of the tutorials and post results for how they work with caelinux 2008. I love the wealth of free CAE software all wrapped into one clean package.
